On Friday 5th October, I was invited to the FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists) 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner in London, to receive The FHT Excellence in Practice Award 2012 for the Research and development of RLD. The award was announced by Janey Lee Grace, best selling author and radio presenter, and presented by Jennifer Wayte President of the FHT. October is breast cancer awareness month, which makes the timing of the award particularly poignant. | |
Reflexology is commonly used in palliative care settings across the UK. Bridging the gap between reflexology practice, and proving its worth, is notoriously difficult. The evidence base for complementary therapies is slim, but growing and this initial project may form the cornerstone of future studies which will contribute to the understanding of the usefulness of reflexology in palliative care.

Well done, Sally. I got an FHT commendation (Excellence in Education) and a lovely certificate to go with it! I'd love to contact you about RLD in the near future.

Thank you and congratulations on receiving a commendation. I am hoping to arrange more workshop dates throughout the UK in 2013. I will be back at The Christie Hospital Manchester in February, and possibly in Sheffield and Stockton-on-Tees in the spring. Since winning the award both FHT & AoR have suggested getting the workshop accredited, which I'm now working towards.

What about lower body lymph-oedema? Any insights using reflexology?

RLD technique can be adapted, how to adapt it, depends on where in the body and what's causing the swelling to occur. 19/10/2012 05:47:07 am
Primary lymph-oedema of the lower extremities. No known cause.

Reflexology Lymph DrainageRLD is a reflexology technique which stimulates specific lymphatic reflexes on the feet. Developed from first principles & researched by Sally Kay to help with the management of secondary lymphoedema in patients affected by treatment for breast cancer. Further research into RLD is ongoing and training is available for reflexology practitioners. Archives
