As the course was in South Wales, I was able to invite a former client who has secondary lymphoedema, to join us for the practical demonstration. She has previously received RLD treatment from me, but not since June 2011. When she arrived she explained to the group how painful and swollen her arm had been in recent weeks, range of movement was restricted and swelling under the arm was also causing considerable discomfort. The swelling was also apparent around her back, level with the armpit. Interestingly, the upper lymphatic reflexes on the feet, also appeared to be puffy and swollen. |
Distal = 6.1% greater than distal normal arm
Proximal = 14.3% greater than proximal normal arm
After - Volume of the swollen arm = 4.1% greater than normal arm
Distal = 0.4% greater than distal normal arm
Proximal = 6.1% greater than proximal normal arm
The swelling also went from under her arm and around her back, which is not included in the calculations, as we can only measure the cylinder of the arm.
