At one of the recent courses something new & special happened while demonstrating RLD on one of the reflexologists who had been treated for breast cancer two years ago and consequently suffered lymphoedema. As part of the practical demonstration I measured the volume of her arms before and after demonstrating RLD. Before RLD her arm was 11.6% bigger than the normal arm ~ after treatment it was only 5.1% bigger. More than half the excess swelling disappeared. Fantastic! This in its self is always wonderful to see, but something else happened. |
During RLD (amongst other physiological responses), she felt a sensation in this previously numb area and even at the end of the day, it was still apparent. The feeling had returned. After treatment she suddenly burst into tears, overwhelmed with emotion by what had just happened. The whole group were choked up by her response.
Manual Lymph Drainage massage is said to help improve post-operative recovery.
Is it therefore possible that Reflexology Lymph Drainage may also help improve recovery from surgery?
The more I see, the more I believe that Reflexology is so much more than relaxing complementary therapy.
More research anyone?
