Reflexology and Hay fever

3/6/2014

After a very interesting morning, when two clients presented with the usual unpleasant symptoms of Hay fever, acute rhinitis, nasal congestion, itchy watery eyes, etc.. and neither of them had taken anti-histamine.

Fairly certain that RLD would help to relieve some of these symptoms, we agreed it was worth trying. I've used RLD previously for Hay fever, but only as part of a reflexology treatment, working other reflex areas too.

This time I followed the original RLD protocol, to focus on causing an effect on the lymphatic system (as per the results of the research), and therefore the immune system too. Suggesting that stimulating the lymphatic system, is likely to cause an effect on the auto-immune inflammatory response to the allergen, in this case pollen.

Both clients felt the effects of the treatment, during and after as the symptoms gradually cleared. Interesting, because I would usually associate this kind of result with having worked the sinus reflexes, but only RLD protocol was used, no sinus reflexes!

If neither client had felt the effects of RLD, I would have added the sinus reflexes ay the end, but on this occasion there was no need, sinuses and nasal passageways cleared without direct stimulation of the sinus reflexes!

I have received some case studies about Hay fever, and it was great to be presented with the chance to use RLD with these clients, particularly as its Hay fever season.

Very interesting! Do you think this could work on nerveamage through shingles? My chiropractor tells me there is nothing that can be done! Shingles is a type of allergy

I think it would be worth trying, although its not possible to comment on individual cases without more information about the medical history

Shingles is an auto-immune response and the pain felt is neuropathic so I assume working the spinal reflex (as you do in RLD) it will stimulate the nerve receptors and over time, may help reduce intensity of discomfort. You could 'double' the help by getting in touch with a clinical aromatherapist who can make you a G. Cham blend for neuropathy too.

I agree Claire, and the more I work with RLD, the more its becoming the foundation of most of my work as a reflexologist ~ learning all the time!

    Reflexology Lymph Drainage

RLD is a reflexology technique which stimulates specific lymphatic reflexes on the feet. Developed from first principles & researched by Sally Kay to help with the management of secondary lymphoedema in patients affected by treatment for breast cancer.  Further research into RLD is ongoing and training is available for reflexology practitioners.
